What are the alpha-hydroxy acid ingredients in AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream?
What’s with acid on the skin?
The lactic acid in AmLactin® is a naturally occurring alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps skin shed old cells and retain moisture. What’s more, our AHA formulas contain creamy emollients and rich humectants that help repair dry skin.
Where is AmLactin® Cream?
AmLactin® Cream has been replaced with AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream. The original cream should be available in stores and online until inventory has been depleted. CVS® and Walgreens® are now carrying the AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream, and it should be available at other retailers soon.
Why did the cream change?
The original AmLactin® Cream formula was very similar to the lotion (with 12% lactic acid), only slightly thicker and packaged in a 4.9 oz tube. We updated our graphics, repackaged our AmLactin XL® formula (which is thicker and has improved hydrating properties), and changed the name to provide the best possible product to our valued customers.
What happened to AmLactin XL®?
After months of research, current and new consumers told us the name “ultra” was more appealing and resonated more with them and their skin care needs. So we listened. We repackaged one of our best formulas into a new, softer tube for easier dispensing and gave it a new name. AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream will eventually replace AmLactin® Cream and AmLactin XL® dry skin cream formulas.
I don’t see AmLactin® Cream on your list. Why?
AmLactin® Cream has been replaced with AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream. The original dry skin cream should be available in stores and online until inventory has been depleted.
Is Ultra the same as XL?
Yes, it sure is! It’s the same great patented ULTRAPLEX® formula.
Where can I find Ultra in the store?
It used to be available only behind the pharmacy counter, but now AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream can be found in the moisturizer aisle of select retailers. For the one nearest you, click here.
What is AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream?
It’s the ultimate triple-action alpha-hydroxy therapy with our patented ULTRAPLEX® formula that smooths, repairs, and softens severe dry skin (try saying that three times fast). For more detailed information, visit our AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream page.
How is Ultra different from the lotion?
While they both share a similar alpha-hydroxy acid base, the lotion contains 12% lactic acid to gently exfoliate and intensely hydrate rough, dry skin. AmLactin® Ultra contains the patented ULTRAPLEX® formula—an extra-strength blend of three alpha-hydroxy acid moisturizers that come from lactic acid to help combat severe dry skin areas. Ultra is much thicker for those tough, persistent dry skin areas.

What are AmLactin® products used for?
AmLactin® Moisturizing Body Lotion is an all-over lotion intended for rough, dry skin. AmLactin® Ultra Hydrating Body Cream is meant for severe dry skin, and AmLactin® Foot Cream helps exfoliate and smooth dry, callused feet.
Is a prescription needed for any of your AmLactin® products?
No. All AmLactin® products are classified as cosmetics and are available for purchase without a prescription.
How often should AmLactin® be applied?
For best results in the treatment of dry skin, AmLactin® should be applied to dry skin twice daily.
Will AmLactin® help my keratosis pilaris?
While there’s no cure for keratosis pilaris (KP) itself, we’ve received numerous stories from KP sufferers saying AmLactin® provided welcome relief by helping the dry skin associated with KP through gentle exfoliation and intense hydration.
Are your AmLactin® products fragrance free?
Yes—this helps reduce the potential for irritation that may sometimes occur with added fragrances.
If AmLactin® is fragrance free, why does it smell funky?
Funky? We prefer “distinct.” What you’re smelling is part of the alpha-hydroxy acid formula that's great for exfoliating dry skin. Most people find that the smell goes away shortly after putting it on.
Why is "#1 Dermatologist Recommended" gone from the label?
It hasn’t gone away. We just show it as a visual symbol on the lower right of each bottle or tube.
Where can I buy AmLactin®?
I’ve seen products just like yours that are cheaper. Why should I buy yours?
What you probably saw was a private label lotion for dry skin or store brand dry skin treatment. We stand by our brand and formula and cannot guarantee you’ll find the same quality with those other products.
